House DFL leadership gathers Friday after electing speaker-designate, majority leader Emily Baude KSTP DFL House leadership gathered Friday morning after electing a speaker-designate, majority leader and majority whip. On Thursday night, state Representative Zack Stephenson was elected to Speaker-designate, Rep. Jamie Long was elected majority leader and Rep. Samantha Specer-Mura was elected majority whip. Following Tuesday’s election, the DFL holds a majority in the House, with 77 members, pending one recount in District 32A. “I am honored to have earned the support of my colleagues to become the 60th Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, following in Melissa Hortman’s footsteps,” said Speaker-designate Stephenson. “We’ll govern in a way that would make her proud. Minnesotans elected the largest House DFL majority since the Obama era, and we’re ready to deliver for them – lower costs, safer communities, a health care system that works, and an economy built for everyone rather than the wealthiest 1%.” “I am grateful to my colleagues for trusting me with returning to the Majority Leader role,” said Majority Leader Long. “House DFLers know how to get things done, and we’re ready to get to work. Minnesotans told us they want a more affordable life, their rights protected, and to stand up for hard-working families.” Watch the live stream in the video player above.
